The Ardstraw Girls' Brigade Company was formed by Mrs Noelle Russell and Mrs Margaret Millar in September 1972, becoming the 243rd Company in Northern Ireland. Mrs Noelle Russell was captain of the company from its foundation, until 1993. Mrs Heather Wallace then became captain for two years (1993-1995). Mrs Arlene Stevenson, the current captain, took over leadership of the company in 1995.
The work of GB centres on four main themes - spiritual, physical, educational and service. These contribute not only to the weekly activities, but to the programme of badge work which includes scripture work, first aid, crime prevention, cooking, entertaining, games and sport. In all of this, the motto of the Girls' Brigade remains unchanging - "Seek, Serve & Follow Christ."
Current officers/helpers are Mrs Kim Chambers, Mrs Wendy Kee, Mrs Lorna McFarland, Mrs Jackie McKelvey, Miss Ruth McKelvey, Miss Grace Russell, Mrs Noletta Smyth, Mrs Arlene Stevenson (Captain) & Mrs Danielle Stevenson. The Elder to the G.B. is Mr Mervyn Smyth.
